Nadia Comăneci

After my last post, you might think I’m becoming a gymnastics junkie. I’m not, but I thought this deserved a post of its own.

While watching gymnastics in past Olympics, I’ve always heard about the amazing Nadia Comăneci, who won the all-around gold in 1976 while scoring something like seven perfect tens.

In this day of YouTube, I thought I’d be able to find some video of her, and I wasn’t disappointed. Watch this clip of her two perfect ten routines on the uneven bars:

The routines are somewhat different from what you see today, and seem to be quite a bit shorter, but I see why they still talk about her—I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so graceful in my entire life.

The Worst(ish) Day Of The Year

I am an incredibly gullible person. When I was in elementary school, I was the kid who would look outside when someone said, “It’s snowing!” in the middle of May. Since I’ve gotten older, things haven’t gotten any better.

Being gullible is bad enough on a regular day, but on April 1, when tons of people are focusing their energies on preying on the gullibility of others, it really really stinks.

And living in the 21st century, when millions of people have potential access to millions of other people via the internet, it just gets worse and worse.

Last year, I got duped by one of my friends who sent me an email saying that he and his wife were pregnant. Later I got really excited when I read on an Atlanta Braves blog that the Braves, who were desperate for a left fielder at the time, had managed to get Carl Crawford in a trade for practically nothing.

This year, April Fools’ Day caught me unawares yet again. This morning I was reading an Arkansas Razorbacks Message Board and was halfway convinced that Darren McFadden had re-enrolled in school at the University of Arkansas and was coming back for his senior season. Since then, I’ve twice clicked on a link that I thought looked interesting only to end up on YouTube watching a video of Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up (apparently this is a fairly popular prank).

April Fools’ Day will end for me in a little under nine hours. I can’t wait.

Ignoring Global Warming Won't Make It Go Away...

Unless it's not real.

Thanks to Dad for the article link.

Lifehouse “Everything” Skit

My brother sent me this video the other night.

Watch the whole video. It’s a little bit strange at first and it took me a couple of minutes to figure out what was going on, but when it hit me, I thought it was very powerful.

This version adds the passage from Romans 8 at the end, which I thought was very fitting.

Beckham Debuts Tomorrow

I’m not a huge fan of soccer, David Beckham or Beatles songs, but I thought the combination of all three made for a pretty sweet commercial:

I’ll be watching the Braves and Cardinals tomorrow night during Beckham’s MLS debut, but I’m intrigued enough that I’ll probably record the game.

It will be interesting to see how much of an impact he has on soccer in the United States—will we ever really care about it?
