That being said, our last head coach hire (Nutt) came from the Big Sky conference, so it's not exactly like things have changed.

And for what it's worth, several ADs were apparently concerned enough about their coaches accepting the Arkansas offer to give them big raises (Butch Davis, Jimbo Fisher, Tommy Tuberville, etc.). So it's not like it's a laughable job either.

P.S. Look for my post later today on how much better McFadden is than your boy Tebow.Luke Dockeryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13535787107819333194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30457405.post-42312271173506947912007-12-07T10:59:00.000-06:002007-12-07T10:59:00.000-06:00Think your going to be upset when Ole Miss beats u...Think your going to be upset when Ole Miss beats up on Arkansas for the next few years...

I am not a Nutt fan, but Arkansas is learning the hard way that not alot of people are interested in that job.Kenny Simpsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06770539943959267270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30457405.post-71199499066983949022007-12-03T15:24:00.000-06:002007-12-03T15:24:00.000-06:00Will, I guess what kills me is the inconsistency.I...Will, I guess what kills me is the inconsistency.

If Broyles/the fan base/whoever thinks we're a top program, then we need to act like one: hire big name coaches and demand excellence from them.

If we're NOT such a program, and we're okay with mediocrity (which is how Broyles acts sometimes, like when he couldn't get a big name basketball coach or when Nutt has a lousy recruiting class), then coaches that do a decent job should be retained.

But because we're inconsistent, nice guys like Stan Heath are fired after back-to-back NCAA tourney appearances while guys like Nutt stay for 10 years with invitations only to minor bowls.

On the field/court Nutt and Heath and similar results, but Nutt was shown much more patience.Luke Dockeryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13535787107819333194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30457405.post-71007264907241973402007-11-29T22:50:00.000-06:002007-11-29T22:50:00.000-06:00let me clarify: Arkansas believes that it has one ...let me clarify: Arkansas believes that it has one of the best athletic programs, but the numbers don't necessarily prove that. While it would be amazing to run track at the U of A Broyles has made a lot of coaches afraid to go coach there.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30457405.post-87056915796075232872007-11-29T22:45:00.000-06:002007-11-29T22:45:00.000-06:00One thing I have found difficult to swallow with A...One thing I have found difficult to swallow with Arkansas athletics, most like due to Frank Broyles, is that they consider themselves one of the top programs in the country. As such they feel they can act like Michigan and Alabama. While it is customary to fire under-performing coaches Arkansas has historically let go of several excellent coaches (while treating them like trash) and kept multiple flounders. If anything, this is the worst way to be the best from a pragmatic and ethical point of view.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
