Observation #11

It’s been said that the church is a hospital for sinners, and I think that is absolutely true. At the same time, the cure of the Great Physician is fundamentally for those who want to be healed, not for those who think they are just fine the way they are.

To put it another way, it’s hard to deal with your problem until you admit that you have one.

Luckily, this Great Physician can heal those even if they don't initially show up at the hospital.

MrsD,

My bad for not responding earlier—I didn't do it right when I first read your comment, and then forgot later.

You’re right—that’s one of the reasons He is so great! He also does wonders with the “incurable” cases.

But I think the initial desire to be healed on the part of the patient is completely necessary—until we desire to have our sin removed from us or at least acknowledge that it exists, Jesus can’t cure us.

I have a lot of patients who come to me to get better, but don't want to actually change their lives so that they will get better. I imagine that God has similar frustrations, only on a much grander scale.
